Nintendo Land Characters Set to Come to Life at Universal Studios
Watch out King Kong, Donkey Kong is coming to Orlando! If you’re a gamer and have spent countless hours at the Super Mario controls, then you’re really going to love this Nintendo Land news. Apparently Mario fans will soon be able to hop right along with their favorite Nintendo video characters thanks to a deal recently announced between Nintendo and Universal Studios.
According to Universal Creative president Mark Woodbury, “We can’t wait for fans to experience this in all three of our parks … Universal Studios Japan, Universal Orlando, and Universal Studios Hollywood. We’re going to be able to create an entire Nintendo Land world.”
Nintendo Land Details
Per a Universal Studios press release, planning and creative work on the Nintendo Land attractions is well underway and they will open separately over the next several years. Like most other themed areas, there will be multiple sources of entertainment including plenty of food and shopping, but the key word here seems to be “interactive” and promises to offer something for everyone, regardless of age or gaming experience.
Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s infamous game creator said in a recent video release, “Together, we are building it with an eye for what guests will actually experience. Since we’re really bringing the world to life, I think Mario will feel like he finally came home!”
Universal describes further, “You’ll enter an entire realm filled with iconic Nintendo excitement, game play, heroes and villains. You’ll feel as if you’re playing inside your favorite games – in real life.”
Nintendo Land Deal
What’s just as interesting as the Nintendo Land announcement is how the deal itself came about. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, said that Universal executives approached Nintendo with the proposal to create the theme-based areas within their existing parks. Apparently Universal Studios Singapore was in the running as well, but lacked the expansion space needed.
The parties are reported to have initially met shortly after Universal opened its new Harry Potter theme park. According to Iwata, “Their proposal was very detailed and specific, and demonstrated their ability to handle the various intellectual properties involved, as they did successfully with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We realized that we have a lot in common regarding our corporate cultures and will now be working together on a long-term basis.”
So as these two conglomerates begin collaboration on their creative and development efforts, it’s back to the game controls for the rest of us! It is thought that each individual park will announce the opening dates when Mario is set to debut in their city! Np specific opening dates were established other than an opening date is coming within the next few years.
