Orlando Spring Break 2016: The Family Friendly Alternative
Florida is probably one of the first places you associate with the term ‘Spring Break’. But let’s face it, Orlando is probably not one of the top Florida locations you traditionally think of when it comes to Spring Break. Orlando is however a great destination for families seeking a more, shall we say, wholesome week of fun!
So if you and your family want to experience some great spring time weather and plenty of family bonding activities, you will want to book your Spring Break 2016 vacation (if you haven’t already!) in an Orlando vacation rental now. The good news is that we still have some home rentals available at the time of this blog posting.
Where to Visit In Orlando for Spring Break
There are several special events that are only taking place in and around Orlando from mid-March to mid-April for Spring Break 2016. Flowers and strawberries – two noteworthy festivals that the whole family will enjoy! Walt Disney World’s annual display that should not be missed is the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.
At the beginning of March, Disney’s Epcot hosts a beautiful display of over 30 million blossoms, several gardens and nearly 100 shrubs that are clipped to resemble various Disney characters. This year Donald Duck’s nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie will make their debut among the other flowery ornamental Disney characters. Also added this year – an edible flower garden! Visitors can taste several garden inspired foods and drinks that are specially created by the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens.
Not too far from Orlando lies the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World, Plant City. Each year in March, this small agricultural town hosts the Florida Strawberry Festival. In just one week, over a half a million people will attend this state fair. There are plenty of family friendly activities including arts and crafts, agricultural displays and livestock, rides, and concerts ( Martina McBride, Lonestar, and the Band Perry will all headline).
Also, Orlando is not too far from several world famous beaches for your Spring Break 2016 extravaganza. If you like the famous kind, Cocoa Beach and Daytona Beach are within 90 minutes of Orlando. If you want a beach that’s a little more family friendly (and quieter during this period), St. Petersburg and New Smyrna are some of the best beaches near Orlando.
Spring Break 2016 Sporting Events in Orlando
If your family loves sports, there are some really cool sporting events happening this spring in Orlando. The Atlanta Braves will begin spring training at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex this March. Even if you are not a Braves fan, you still may get a chance to see your favorite MLB team play against them for a very reasonable cost. Click here for the schedule: https://www.espnwwos.com/events/spectator/braves-spring-training/schedule/. What’s really great about going to a spring training game is that you really get an intimate baseball experience in a small complex; one you don’t when you go to a regular season game at a big stadium!
For college football fans, the Florida State Seminoles are scheduled to play the annual 2016 spring game at the Orlando Citrus Bowl April 9th.
Also, be sure to visit Orlando’s newest attraction the Orlando Eye.
With the all hype of the new Star Wars movie, Disney has added several Star Wars themed sports events and activities including a Star Wars themed Half Marathon – The Dark Side as well as a 5K, 10K and kids races mid-April- something the whole family can participate in. More information can be found here: http://www.rundisney.com/star-wars-wdw-half-marathon/#dark-side.
Golf
Golf loving families won’t want to miss attending the Arnold Palmer’s Invitational tournament which takes place this year from March 17th – 20th. You may even meet your favorite player and have the chance to snap a photo or grab an autograph during your spring break 2016 visit!
