Orlando Florida Roller Coasters Coming Soon in 2016-2017
Attention all thrill-seekers and roller coaster enthusiasts, the most exciting new Orlando Florida roller coasters ever imagined will potentially be coming to the theme park capital of the world! Orlando has two structures currently being built: a new Mako roller coaster at SeaWorld set to open in 2016 and the Skyscraper coaster at the Skyplex on I-Drive still under consideration by the city. Click the hyperlink for more information on the new Mako roller coaster at SeaWorld Orlando.
Slumping ticket sales due to negative publicity over whales in captivity and the stiff competition of other theme parks have catapulted SeaWorld® into expanding its park beyond sea life. SeaWorld Orlando is revamping its image by concentrating on additional amusement rides. SeaWorld recently announced that it will be opening the biggest coaster in Orlando next year!
New Roller Coaster in SeaWorld Orlando
#Nothingfaster was the teaser released by SeaWorld Orlando to describe the park’s newest roller coaster coming in 2016. The lack of details describing the coaster has created a frenzy of anticipation among thrill-seekers. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until May 27th when more details are scheduled to be released.
In the meantime, here’s what we do know. SeaWorld’s veiled coaster is projected to open in 2016 and will join SeaWorld Orlando’s other two thrilling roller coasters the Kraken and the Manta. More notably for adventure seekers, this will be Orlando’s TALLEST coaster at 200ft (it will surpass Universal’s Rip Ride Rockit at 167ft), FASTEST coaster (it will surpass the 67mph of Universal’s Incredible Hulk) and LONGEST coaster (it will surpass the 2 minutes and 50 seconds of Disney’s Expedition Everest).
As exciting as SeaWorld’s tallest coaster is for scream-seekers, this distinction won’t last long. SeaWorld Orlando’s coaster will be eclipsed the following year by the vertical coaster known as the Skyscraper, which is currently under construction at the I-Drive Skyplex. Michael Kitchen, President of US Thrill Rides, confidently states: “It is an absolute cutting-edge engineering marvel that will deliver pure adrenaline unlike any roller coaster in the world today”. And actually, he may be right.
The New I-Drive Skyscraper Roller Coaster
The Skyscraper is set to break a few world records when it potentially opens in 2017. This rollercoaster would twist, barrel roll, and tumble inside and along the side of the giant stratosphere reaching heights of over 550 ft. -most notably making this the highest coaster in the WORLD- before plunging 50 stories.
It will also potentially have two beyond-vertical drops including the steepest drop in the world at 123 degrees and have the highest inversion in the world (Theme Park Review). The ride will be just about 4 minutes of fun (or sheer terror)! The rollercoaster will zoom along at speeds of 65 mph. It is expected to accommodate approximately 1000 riders per hour. The eight-passenger vehicle will have lap restraints instead of over the shoulder harnesses so as not to obstruct the view (Orlando Sentinel). The cost for such a high thrills ride will be a mere $20 for an unlimited day pass.
The I-Drive complex has been quite busy with our recent new attraction news. Weeks ago the International Drive entertainment corridor added the Orlando Eye to bring guests to the area. This is all in an effort to rejuvenate the retail shopping, dining, and attractions for I-Drive Orlando.
With the news of at least one of these Orlando Florida roller coasters, the I-Drive complex could be a busy place in the coming years.
