Walt Disney World Park Tickets – New Price Structure
If you’ve been paying attention to the national news lately, you would have seen that Walt Disney World park tickets are now priced based on time of year. And, if you’ve planned or are planning your vacation to Orlando this year, you might be concerned how this will affect you. Bottom line, if you re-consider the time of year you plan to visit, this might yield some cost savings on both Walt Disney World park tickets and vacation lodging.
For the first time, Disney has implemented “demand” based pricing. This essentially means that Disney will now charge up to 20% higher (based on past customer attendance) for the most popular times of the year. They hope this new pricing structure will limit crowding and long lines during these peak periods. Instead of the $105 flat rate one day ticket for example, there are now three ticket pricing tiers: Peak, Regular and Value. Magic Kingdom ‘peak’ tickets will top out at the highest – $124 per day. The other Disney parks ‘value’ tickets are the least expensive at $97 per day.
As you can probably imagine, there are not a lot of ‘value’ days. A quick search at the time of this blog post indicates that the only value time this year is the last week of August and month of September (when the kids go back to school!). If you think that you can avoid the price hike with bundled savings, think again. Disney has also increased the multi-day ticket prices by $20-$35 per pass as well as raising the resort prices from 4-15%. In just over a year, parking has also increased from $15 to $20 per day. As the number one tourist destination in the country, Orlando doesn’t really have much of a slow season. Most likely, you will find yourself paying more than ever for Walt Disney World park tickets.
What are My Options for Cost Savings on Walt Disney World Park Tickets?
OVH 360 knows that Walt Disney World is the biggest attraction in Orlando, and that most people have their heart set on going no matter what the cost. OVH 360 doesn’t discourage you from visiting Disney, but we want to help make your trip a little more affordable. What exactly are the best suggestions for saving money on Walt Disney World park tickets?. Our best suggestion for saving money on Walt Disney park tickets is to re-consider the time of year you plan to go to Disney. Approximately, 30% of the Disney calendar year is considered ‘peak’, a fifth considered ‘value’ and the rest of the year is ‘regular’ priced. In general, avoid holidays and school breaks if you want to avoid ‘peak’ times, and travel in late August or September if you want to take advantage of ‘value’ periods.
It might be helpful to visit Disney’s ticket calendar is if you have the ability to be flexible with planning travel dates and prices. Not only are ticket prices tied to the time of year, but so are vacation accommodations.
Let’s say you’re willing to shell out a little more just to go at a time you desire. For example’s sake, let’s consider a family of four traveling with two young kids over the 2016 Memorial Day weekend (considered a peak time). If you planned to take the least expensive route at Disney with tickets and lodging, you would wind up paying approximately $1,800 (coincidently, if you planned this same trip during ‘value’ time the cost would be about $200 less). This is based strictly on our search at the time of this blog post. This bundled price would include one standard room at the least expensive Disney resort, All-Star Movies, 2 counter service evening meals per person, and a 2 day one park ticket per person.
This same tickets and lodging ‘bundle’ would run you about $1250 (at the time of this post) if you chose to stay at one of our affordable properties like the Encantada Resort which sleeps up to 6, has its own kitchen and includes all the same resort amenities if not more. Additionally, it is located just minutes from Disney! Like most other accommodations, the OVH 360 vacation rental rates do fluctuate with Disney seasonal demand patterns. So one can most often save money on both Walt Disney World park tickets and vacation accommodations by proactively selecting the time of year you visit Orlando.
