Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium – Capital One Bowl 2012
The 2012 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida will be held at 1 p.m. EST on January 2, 2012 at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. This game has traditionally been played on New Year’s Day (January 1st) for many years. This year’s Orlando event match-up will be the South Carolina Gamecocks vs. the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
This elite collegiate football game features a member of the expanded Big Ten Conference vs. the emulous Southeastern Conference. The Orlando event final result for the 2011 Capital One Bowl was a 49-7 drubbing in favor of Alabama over Michigan State.
Funds from this college football bowl game and related bowl festivities benefit area community oriented charities. This is truly one of Orlando’s top sports events of the year.
The Citrus Bowl charitable activities are managed by a very loyal and enthusiastic volunteer community association – Florida Citrus Sports.

The 2012 Capital One Bowl is groundbreaking on many fronts. The Big Ten will feature a newly aligned conference due to the addition of Nebraska to its ranks. Each side will now feature 2 six team divisions:
- Leaders Division – Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin
- Legends Division – Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern
The Orlando event kick-off time will remain at approximately 1:00 p.m. EST for 2012. Projected payout for the game is $9.0 million which, according to the Florida Citrus Bowl website, is the highest for any non-BCS game.
Our initial prediction for the 2012 Capital One Bowl is the Northwestern Wildcats vs. the Florida Gators. This game would be an easy sellout for area Gators fans who last saw their team play in this memorable bowl game in 2008 against Michigan. Northwestern has only played once in the Capital One/Citrus Bowl which was in 1997 against Tennessee.
The 2011-12 Northwestern Wildcats are picked in the Top 25 of many preseason football polls. The team is coached by Pat Fitzgerald who is in his 6th year coaching the Wildcats. Northwestern finished the 2010-11 season with 7 wins, but with a season ending loss in the TicketCity Bowl to Texas Tech. The Wildcats return Dan Persa at quarterback who is on many First Team pre-season all Big Ten squads. Northwestern’s success or failure could rest squarely on his capable shoulders.
The Florida Gators look to reclaim their position of dominance in the rugged Eastern division of the SEC. New Head Coach Will Muschamp and Offensive Coordinator Charlie Weis should be able to get the Gators ready for the challenge. The Gators finished the 2010-11 season with 8 wins, but were a mediocre 4-4 in conference play. Seniors John Brantley at quarterback and Chris Rainey at running back are the keys for Florida on offense. Northwestern vs. Florida would be an intriguing match-up for the 2012 Capital One Bowl Orlando event.

2012 Capital One Bowl Update
Let’s hope we do better at reviewing vacation homes than we do at picking college football games! At the half way point, it is looking more and more like it will be the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Georgia Bulldogs or the South Carolina Gamecocks representing the SEC. The Big 10 representative is really up for grabs – Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan or Nebraska could all still be the Big 10 host team for the 2012 Capital One Bowl. Both conference championship games should be exciting and add even more drama for the selection of the Capital One Bowl match-up.
Update: It appears very likely that the 2012 Capital One Bowl will feature the South Carolina Gamecocks vs. the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
