New-Look 2015 Atlanta Braves to Play Host at Kissimmee’s Champion® Stadium

The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will play host to several of Major League’s marquee teams when they converge on Champion® Stadium this year beginning in March, with the Atlanta Braves Spring Training featured as the host team in Kissimmee. The Grapefruit League will feature an impressive slate of match-ups between baseball titans such as the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Washington Nationals.

Fans will certainly not be disappointed at this year’s venue, which begins on March 4 when the Braves play host to the Mets, and concludes on March 23 with a game against the Houston Astros.

Between games at Kissimmee, the Braves will also barnstorm across the Sunshine state as they travel to other Spring Training games in Tampa, Sarasota, Clearwater, Lakeland, Port St. Lucie, Viera, Fort Meyers, Jupiter, Bradenton, and Dunedin. For several of these locations, Orlando is within 90 minutes of spring training venues.

When they play as the host team in Kissimmee, “Take me out to the ball park” will take on a whole new meaning this year as visitors can expect to be treated to impromptu Disney character appearances, as well as exclusive on-field spectator experiences available.

Coming off a losing season in 2014, many analysts are predicting a rebuilding year for the Braves, but Atlanta’s skipper Fredi Gonzalez remains optimistic recently stating “Our goal is still to get in the playoffs. That always will be my goal.” ¹

If the Braves are to reach the playoffs, they will have to depend on a whole slate of new signees, especially following the offseason trades of Jason Heyward, Evan Gattis, and Justin Upton, who collectively accounted for just over half of the team’s homeruns last year.

Atlanta’s outfield could be a bright spot for the team however, especially with the addition of veteran free-agent Jonny Gomes who was recently signed to a 1-year, $4M deal. Joining the left fielder Gomes will most likely be Nick Markakis in right, and rounded out by B.J. Upton in center. The Braves also picked up some added insurance when they recently acquired outfielder Eury Perez off waivers from the New York Yankees.

The infield should be anchored by first baseman Freddie Freeman and shortstop Andrelton Simmons. Closer Craig Kimbrel should still give the Brave’s strength coming out of the bullpen, with a whole slew of newly signed pitchers hoping to make the rotation to get there including right-handers Arodys Vizcaino, Shelby Miller, Jason Grilli, Jim Johnson, and Michael Foltynewicz, along with lefties Manny Banuelos and Josh Outman.

Also rounding out recent additions to the squad are catcher A.J. Pierzynski and infielder Alberto Callaspo.
